The chairman of the board of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Professor Stephen Adei, has discredited President John Dramani Mahama’s allegations of embezzlement in the Authority.
The NDC flag bearer alleged during an interview with Insight newspaper editor Kwesi Pratt Jnr on Saturday that the educator had colluded with the Minister of Finance to use criminal means to close GRA’s income gap in 2019.
“Some of these things have been very criminal and I am amazed that Professor Adei, as president of GRA, could conspire to do something as criminal as this,” says Mahama.
But in a statement issued on Monday, December 1, Professor Adei repudiated the claim, calling it “false, false, malicious and inappropriate for a former head of state.”
“Alleging criminality and threatening my integrity as a citizen with an immaculate career as an economist, diplomat, former rector, professor emeritus of Leadership and Economics, as well as one who is ethically not ashamed of being a born-again Christian, theologian and preacher of the of Jesus Christ is most lamentable, Juan. And doing it taking advantage of social networks is unfortunate, “he added.
The educator, therefore, requested an apology from the NDC presidential candidate and stated that without it, he [Prof. Adei] he would “advise himself” after the general election in December 2020.
Furthermore, he commissioned Mr. Mahama to provide evidence to back up his claims, promising to “surgically” treat the culprits.
“Regarding the alleged payment of GH ¢ 15,000.00 and more for people to get a job at GRA, if HE Mahama has any evidence in this regard I would like to receive the information and I can assure you that the culprits will be treated surgically according to the law the Board and Management of GRA ”.
