Prime Minister of Fiji calls him for Biden

Frank Bainimarama, Prime Minister of Fiji, appears to have called elections in favor of Joe Biden, although the votes are still being counted.

The leader of the Pacific nation tweeted his congratulations and said he hoped the Democrat would play a role in saving the planet from the climate emergency.

Fiji produces less than 1% of the world’s carbon emissions, yet rising sea levels, coastal erosion, and intense storm surges are having a dramatic effect on the country.

Under Donald Trump, the United States became the first nation in the world to formally withdraw from the Paris climate agreement.

The Paris agreement was drafted in 2015 to strengthen the global response to the threat of climate change.

Biden has said that he will seek to rejoin as soon as possible, if elected president.

Bainimarama’s tweet comes after Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Jansa took to Twitter on Wednesday to congratulate Trump on winning the election. Twitter put a warning on Jansa’s tweet, saying: “Official sources may not have called the race when this was tweeted.”
