Preston survives comeback to beat Cherries – Ghana football latest news, live scores, results

Tom Barkhuizen (left) has now scored three goals in his last four games for Preston North End

Bournemouth lost a chance to go to the top of the championship when they were beaten at home by Preston North End, despite a late comeback.

The visitors led at the counter early on when Tom Barkhuizen got on the far post of Daniel Johnson’s pitch before Scott Sinclair doubled the lead with an incredible shot from 40 yards.

Preston added a third when Patrick Bauer converted a Johnson cross, but Junior Stanislas responded with a nice free throw soon after.

The hosts set up a tense end when Sam Surridge headed a cross from Jaidon Anthony, but the North End held on for the win.

The result ends Preston’s two-game losing streak and moves them to 14th place, while Bournemouth remains second but is tied on points with third-place Bristol City who won at QPR.

    Relive Tuesday’s EFL action

Preston came to the trip to Vitality Stadium on a streak that had seen them lose five of their last seven league games, but took a well-earned early lead.

Barkhuizen scored his third goal in four appearances at the end of a good fast break that began with a smart ball from Sinclair to play through Johnson.

Sinclair found the net within five minutes of the restart when he saw Cherries goalkeeper Asmir Begovic off his line and fired into the top corner from outside the area.

Bournemouth fought back, however, after Bauer added Preston’s third and they were rewarded with the efforts of Stanislas and Surridge, but they couldn’t find a dramatic late draw.

A good night for North End soured when Bauer was transported on a stretcher in overtime with an injury.
