The president of the Ghana National Oil Drivers Union, George Nyaunu, has reportedly disappeared, announced the vice president of the Union, Sunday Alabi.

According to him, the president disappeared at 5 p.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2020.

The vice president affirms that there have been threats against the life of the president of the Union, but added that it is too early to suggest foul play.

“As we speak, from yesterday afternoon around 5 pm until now, our president’s phone has been off. We checked his house and his wife said he left the house in the morning. [of Thursday] and has not returned. ”

“So we called this morning to check, but his phone is still off and he’s still not home. We don’t want to prejudge now until we are sure of foul play before we speak, ”said Alabi.

About the sitting strike

Members of the National Union of Oil Tanker Drivers embarked on a sit-down strike on Thursday, October 22, 2020.

According to the Union, the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has not addressed their concerns.

The tanker truck drivers held a press conference on Monday, October 19, 2020 to complain about some issues that affect them and demanded government intervention.

Among other things, they complained of police harassment at checkpoints and the NPA’s failure to adhere to a 2017 memorandum of understanding signed by stakeholders on the condition of service for tanker truck drivers and their colleagues.

They also complained about non-compliance with traffic losses and the refusal of the warehouse operators to comply with the 20 degrees Celsius loading temperature requirement.
