Insurance: President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has assured that the suspension of sports activities will soon be eased to allow soccer competitions and other contact sports to start their activities again.
Sports activities were suspended on March 15 as part of the government’s measures to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In his 15th address to the state on Sunday, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo announced the easing of some restrictions, including the reopening of Kotoka International Airport, but said the contact sport ban would remain in effect until further notice.
However, he hinted that a decision would be made in the coming weeks on the resumption of contact sports, including soccer, taking into account the imminent participation of national teams in international competitions.
“As a well-known soccer lover, I know how devastating his absence has been, and I am hopeful that very soon we will all have the pleasure of playing and seeing the beautiful game again.
“Until then, non-contact sports are the only sporting events allowed. The beaches, pubs, cinemas and nightclubs will still be closed until further notice ”, he said.
