Porto manager Sergio Conceicao lashed out at Manchester City counterpart Pep Guardiola, claiming he used ‘ugly words’ on the touchline during their Champions League group match.
The duo were seen arguing on the touchline on several occasions during City’s 3-1 win against the Portuguese team over a series of refereeing decisions.
Guardiola downplayed the incidents after the Group C match, claiming that he and Conceicao are ‘friends’, but the Portuguese has not reciprocated and instead lashed out at the former Barcelona manager, accusing him of pressuring the referees. and have a bad attitude.
“I have a lot to learn from Pep Guardiola, in the way he puts pressure on referees, talks to opposition players and on the opposition bench,” the Porto coach told the Portuguese media.
‘It is a fantastic example. I have to learn this. We were angels compared to the other dugout.
He spoke of our country in horrible words. Guardiola’s attitude was extremely unpleasant.
“The whole Manchester City bench was because if anyone should have complained it was the Porto bench, because they did us very badly.
“ I have to apologize to the referees in Portugal, because I complain when I think they hurt us, but comparing the officials of this game and those at the top in the VAR, the international referees have a lot to learn from ours in Portugal. .
‘The refereeing had a great influence on the outcome of this match. [Augustin] Marchesín’s leg is in bad shape right now because he received a foul before the sanction.
Guardiola was outraged after Raheem Sterling and Pepe were involved in a clash that left the English star accusing the former Real Madrid center-back of stepping on his ankle.
Conceicao wasn’t happy with the refereeing either, however, believing his goalkeeper Marchesin had been fouled by midfielder Ilkay Gundogan in preparation for Sergio Agüero’s penalty in the first half to tie things after Luis Diaz’s first goal.
Gundogan and substitute Ferran Torres added more goals for City amid all the discussions between the two coaches, which continued into the second half, and at full time, Guardiola headed towards the tunnel instead of shaking Conceicao’s hand .
The apparent tension between the pair could be renewed ahead of City’s second leg in Porto in early December.
