Ghanaian police officers have been urged to resist the temptation to participate directly or indirectly in any political activity as the 2020 elections approach.
DCOP Kwaku Boadu-Peprah, Director of Operations for the Ghana Police Service, warned officers not to engage in acts of partisan politics, as the rules of his service disapprove of that.
Speaking to officers at the end of the security awareness march, DCOP Boadu-Peprah reminded officers to whom they owe allegiance; which is the state and not just any political party.
Using himself as an example, DCOP Boadu-Peprah asked officers to follow the example of their superiors in service who had been loyal servants of the state.
He also warned them against being used as agents of violence during elections and asked them to be diligent and impartial in the performance of their duties during elections.
“Police, you are not supposed to get involved in any political activity. You can only do that when you enter the voting booth where you can exercise your power. It cannot be indicated that this man is going to win or I support Mr. A or Mr. B. “
“You should know that most of us here joined the service before political parties were created. Whether you keep A or B, at the end of the month, it is your salary that you are going to get. So we must not get involved in anything. When the time comes for the elections, we will simply go out to fulfill our duties, ”he said.
Greater Accra Regional Police Commander DCOP Afful Boakye-Yiadom told officers to minimize their sexual activities in order to save energy for the task ahead.
“You all know the consequences of a major offense, so always go through that section and control yourself. We all need energy to work during elections. Therefore, I advise everyone to reduce their sexual rounds so they have the energy to work well before, during and after the elections.
