The Greater Accra Regional Police have recovered two pump action weapons and 100 rounds of AK47 ammunition in a bank robbery operation in Lashibi in Accra.

According to police, the incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Friday, October 16, 2020.

Approximately six unidentified gunmen robbed a bank in Lashibi and, in the process, opened fire on a vault, chiseled the wall of the vault for access, and robbed the safe.

Shots from the scene of the robbery attracted a police patrol team and the robbers fled amid the shots.

A search of the scene led to the recovery of an electric cutter, hammer, chisel, eleven live 9mm rounds, and one round of spent ammunition.

Two suspects, Albert Buckson and Prince Ankrah, who were in a taxi were arrested nearby.

They were suspected of being under surveillance related to the robbery. A reinforcement patrol team also intercepted an Urvan bus suspected of being related to the theft.

The occupants of the minibus, however, escaped when they saw the police.

Police, however, recovered two pump-action pistols and 100 rounds of AK47 live ammunition.

Since then, the police have detained the two suspects along with three private security men who were on duty at the time of the robbery to assist in investigations.
