The Accra Regional Police Command arrested five people in connection with a dawn robbery operation at a bank in Lashibi intercepting two bomb-action weapons and 100 rounds of AK 47 ammunition from the suspects.
This happened in the early morning of Saturday, October 17, 2020 around 0200 hours.
Suspects will assist in police investigations.
The head of the Command’s Public Affairs Unit, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Effia Tenge, who told the Ghana News Agency, mentioned the suspects as Prince Ankrah and Albert Buckson, who were found in a parked taxi with the engine in a few meters. of the scene.
They were suspected of being on a surveillance related to the robbery, he added.
The other three are private security officers who were on duty at the time of the incident.
DSP Tenge explained that about six unidentified gunmen were involved in the incident.
She said the thieves shot into the vault, chiselled the wall into the vault to gain access and stole from the safe.
“However, the shots from the scene attracted a police patrol team that moved in that direction,” he added.
DSP Tenge said that the thieves, realizing that the police were approaching, managed to escape amid the shooting.
She said a search of the scene led to the recovery of an electric cutter, chisel, hammer, 11 live 9mm rounds and a round of spent ammunition.
An extension of the police search inside the enclave led to the arrest of Prince and Albert, who were found in a taxi parked with the engine a few meters from the scene and were suspected of being under surveillance linked to the theft, it added.
DSP Tenge said that reinforcement patrol teams at the scene of the robbery also intercepted a city bus suspected of being related to the same robbery, but its occupants seeing that the police escaped.
It was on the city bus that the police recovered the two pump action pistols and about 100 rounds of real AK47 ammunition.
