This was made known by the Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, Police Commissioner (COP) Mr. Isaac Ken Yeboah, when he informed journalists about the violent incidents recorded by the police during and after the elections.
The cases under investigation were the shooting of some jubilant supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Savelugu by unknown gunmen, shootings in the central Ablekuma constituency, riots and shootings in the Odododiodio constituency, and gunfire in the Techiman South constituency center. collation.
COP Yeboah said the police had begun investigations into the cases and would work hard to ensure the prosecution of all perpetrators.
Odododiodio
On Odododiodio, he said that five suspects who allegedly fired at a crowd of jubilant New Patriotic Party (PNP) supporters had been arrested and brought before the Adjabeng District Court in Accra.
The suspects, charged with possession of weapons and ammunition without legal authority, were taken into police custody and would reappear in court on December 21, 2020.
Thirty-two other suspects who were arrested for damaging an NPP brand vehicle have also appeared in the same court.
They pleaded guilty and have since been granted bail by the court to reappear on February 3, 2021.
During investigations into the shooting incident that killed two individuals identified as Emmanuel Dompreh, 36, and Botwe Tackie, 16, police recovered a pump action pistol with cartridges and two pistols with ammunition.
Other items recovered from the suspects included pepper spray, a machete, pocket knives, kitchen knives and a ballistic vest.
The CID chief said efforts were underway to arrest one of the suspects identified only as Bruno, who had been a fugitive.
Central Ablekuma
Regarding the incident of the shooting in the Central District of Ablekuma, the Director General of the CID said that a national security operative, Collins Quarcoo, who fired his side arm indiscriminately at the collation center, wounding three people, including a police officer, he was arrested by the police on duty. in the middle.
One of the injured people has died.
Since then, the suspect had been brought before a circuit court in Accra and detained in police custody, with the next hearing set for December 24, 2020.
COP Yeboah said that in another incident in the same district, police investigations established that a stray bullet, fired by a soldier who had not yet been identified, hit two people.
He said that the incident that took place at the Odorkor Police Church, which served as a collection center for the Central Constituency of Ablekuma, occurred when some people started throwing objects at Election Commission officials and other people in the center.
He explained that the stray bullet was from warning shots intended to protect against attacks from a crowd.
The two victims were transferred to Korle Bu University Hospital but one of them, identified as Abass Ibrahim, died on December 16, 2020.
“Investigations are underway to identify the military officer who fired the warning shot,” Yeboah said.
Savelugu chief arrested
COP Yeboah said Duko’s boss in Savelugu, Duko Naa Mohammed Ahmed, and two others have been arrested in connection with the shooting of a 12-year-old girl, Zakaria Samira, and three others when some NDC supporters were jubilant afterward. the elections.
He claimed that police investigations had revealed that the shooting came from the office of the NDC parliamentary candidate, Alhaji Iddrris Yakubu, and that the weapon used was an AK47.
A joint military and police operation led to the recovery of an AK 47 rifle with two magazines loaded with 40 rounds of ammunition and a G3 ammunition with a cartridge from Duko’s chief.
When the team searched Mr. Yakubu’s office in his absence, they found another AK 47 rifle with two magazines loaded with 60 rounds of ammunition.
Yeboah said Yakubu had not presented himself to the police despite being invited while Duko’s boss had appeared before the Tamale Magistrates Court.
The court granted Chief GH ¢ 100,000 bond with two bonds.
Techiman
Taking a look at Techiman, the Director General said that police were searching for the people behind the shooting incident that injured eight men at a collection center in the Techiman South constituency.
He said an unknown person in the crowd fired a gun and security people in the center fired warning shots to disperse the rioters after a disagreement over the election results during the gathering of the results.
Two of the victims, identified as Tajudeen Mohammed and Abdallah Ayarek, were pronounced dead when they were transferred to the Sagrada Familia Hospital in Techiman.
“The police are still investigating to determine the perpetrators of the crime,” Yeboah said.
NDC protesters
In a related event, 30 protesters who were arrested during a rally by some NDC supporters at the Election Commission premises last Thursday were bailed GH ¢ 10,000 with one bond each by the Accra High Court yesterday.
