The Central Region Police Command obtained a court order to prevent the National Democratic Congress (NDC) from embarking on a protest in the Effutu constituency on Tuesday, January 5.

The ban order was granted by the Cape Coast Superior Court on December 31, 2020.

DSP Irene Serwaah Oppong, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, explained that Effutu NDC’s request to embark on a demonstration could not be granted.

“The NDC request cannot be honored by the police because the Regional Command is not in a position to provide security to protesters as a result of post-election events and multifaceted security operations during the holiday season.”

He also pointed to the events prior to the inauguration of the president-elect on January 7, 2021 as part of the reasons.

Therefore, the Police Command has urged the general public, especially NDC supporters, sympathizers, and supporters to adhere to the directive.

Meanwhile, the president of the NDC Effutu constituency has been duly served with the court order.
