A police officer from the Accra Regional Department of Criminal Investigations, Lance Corporal Bright Akosa, and two others have been captured by the Police Anti-Theft Unit in connection with a robbery and murder.
According to the CID director general, COP Ken Yeboah, the police officer used his service weapon to allegedly kill a taxi driver, Samuel Tawiah, 46, during the robbery.
All three have been prosecuted, charged and taken into police custody after arrests were made on September 14.
“The police officer and his accomplice were offering a Nissan Versa taxi for sale in Cape Coast when they were arrested,” police officer Ken Yeboah told reporters Friday morning.
The police officer had gone to Pokuase to hire Adjei Kotoku’s taxi “on the pretext of going to visit his work.”
Unbeknownst to the taxi driver, one of the suspects, Ebenezer Tetteh, was hiding in a nearby bush.
“When Lance Corporal arrived at the scene, he ordered the taxi driver to stop the vehicle and then shot him twice while the driver was sitting behind the wheel.”
“Then Ebenezer came out of hiding, took out the deceased taxi driver and the policeman shot him again to make sure he was dead. They left him in the mountains, ”the CID chief continued.
The suspects then moved to the Central Region to sell the taxi for GHS8,000 to the third suspect.
