The Central Region Police Command through the Superior Court in Cape Coast in the Central Region has obtained a ban order to prohibit the Effutu branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) from embarking on a demonstration on Tuesday, January 5, 2020.
The party in the constituency had written to the police to protest the results of the general elections held last year.
But police said the group’s request cannot be granted because it cannot provide security for the demonstration due to “post-election events, multi-faceted security operations for the holiday season, and events leading up to the president-elect’s inauguration on January 7. from 2021. ”
Therefore, the Central Regional Police Command has warned the general public, especially the followers, sympathizers and supporters of the National Democratic Congress in Effutu Constituency, to the restraining order and to act in compliance.
The action follows a similar one in December 2020, where the Accra Regional Police Command also obtained a restraining order against the NDC. Ban the party from embarking on more protests. and demonstrations in Accra on the outcome of the elections.
NDC supporters across the country have protested the results of the 2020 elections.
The opposition party is one of the things that expresses its outrage at what it says are errors on the part of the Electoral Commission (EC) after carrying out the voting exercise.
His standard bearer, John Dramani Mahama has formally filed a petition in the Supreme Court to challenge the results of the elections.
L, however, said that NDC will continue to use protests to “demand the application of the rule of law and the protection of life and property of the good people of Ghana”.
According to him, going to court does not prohibit the party from organizing protests against the declared results.
One of the party’s legal team members, Abraham Amaliba, explained that protests and electoral petitions are two separate issues that must be distinguished.
