Workers at the Chinese company that builds Pokuase Interchange have gone on strike to insist on their demand for better working conditions.
Among other health benefits requested by the group, the Company has also been asked to increase workers’ daily wages by at least 75 percent.
To justify his stance, a worker spokesman, Evans Gyimah said that workers deserve protection.
According to him, while the contractors are allegedly engaging in unfair labor practices such as wrongful termination, the staff have also not received protective equipment.
“We are crying for an increase and also for the working conditions. They have to protect us.
“The Chinese like to say goodbye when you are tired. We are human beings. You can’t work like a bull works, ”he said.
He added that there have been several complaints and requests to management, but nothing was done about his concerns.
Therefore, they urge the government to intervene.
