Pogba can’t be happy with Man Utd’s role, says Deschamps

France coach Didier Deschamps believes Paul Pogba “cannot be happy” with his situation at Manchester United.

The midfielder has only started four of United’s seven Premier League games this season and has been deployed on the wing at times.

United activated a one-year extension to his contract in October, but there has been speculation about his future, and Pogba recently said he “dreams” of playing for Real Madrid.

“I know Paul well and he knows the team well,” Deschamps said. “He is in a situation with his club where he cannot be happy, neither with his playing time, nor with his positioning,”

“He is not at his best, he has had a series of injuries and COVID-19 that has hit him quite hard. You need to find your rhythm.

“For me, there is no such concern. When a player feels uncomfortable at his club, he is obviously happy to play for the France team. He will tell me about his feelings and since I know him very well, he will go in a positive direction.

“It is also your responsibility to make a great effort.”

Deschamps spoke ahead of France’s friendly against Finland on Wednesday, before Les Bleus take on Portugal and Sweden in the Nations League on November 14-17.

Manchester United’s next game is at home against West Brom on November 21.
