The new parliamentary candidate of the Patriotic Party for Yapei-Kusawugu, Abu Kamara, lost his life in a car accident.
It is reported that he died at the scene along with two others in the accident.
The parliamentary candidate was returning to Tamale after a campaign event when the incident occurred near Datoyili around 10:39 pm on Friday, October 16, 2020.
The two remaining victims are said to be his assistant and another passenger who was with him in his car was reported to have crashed into an articulated truck.
The Savannah Regional Branch of the PNP that confirmed his death in a short statement said: “With great regret, the Savannah Regional PNP and the party at large announce the unfortunate disappearance of our parliamentary candidate for the Yapei Kusowgu constituency, Abu Kamara. . He died with an aide, Majeed Kotochi (Young Chief) and another occupant in an unfortunate accident at the Datoyili police barrier. May their souls rest in peace. Amen.”
His main contender in the December elections, John Abdulai Jinapor of the Democratic National Congress, in a statement on his Facebook page, described the news as sad and expressed his condolences to the affected family of Mr. Kamara, the PNP and the voters of Yapei-Kusawagu.
The remains of Mr. Abu Kamara have already been deposited at the Tamale University Hospital.
The death of the PNP parliamentary candidate comes exactly one week after the party lost its parliamentary candidate for Mfantseman East, Ekow Quansah Hayford, due to an alleged attack by armed robbers who shot and killed the MP and his driver.
