Gerard Piqué is willing to help Barcelona finance their new Espai Barca stadium. Very little progress has been made in remodeling the Camp Nou since the idea was first proposed in 2014.
Back then, the project’s budget was 600 million euros, while now the new stadium will cost Barcelona at least 725 million euros, plus 90 million euros in interest. The former vice president of Barcelona, Jordi Moix, the new stadium will have a final cost of 815 million euros.
According to Radio MARCA, Piqué has offered to act as an intermediary between Barcelona and other companies willing to finance the project, in addition to showing his interest in subcontracting projects.
Goldman Sachs currently leads a conglomerate of banks that is in charge of financing Espai Barca which, as Barcelona predicts, will generate 150 million euros a year for the club.
The latest predictions estimate that work on Espai Barca won’t be complete until 2025, and that the Barcelona basketball team will have the new Palau Blaugrana built by 2023.
With the Catalan club in serious financial trouble, paying for the massive project has become a problem. This is where Piqué comes in. He has a track record in generating business for Barcelona, being key in the sponsorship agreement with Rakuten.
