Bayern Munich star Thiago Alcántara has called Philippe Coutinho a “freak” for his teammate under pressure.
Former Liverpool star Coutinho completed a £ 142m transfer to Barcelona in 2018, but was deemed to be in excess of the requirements by the end of last season and was sent on loan to Munich.
The German giants have the option of signing Coutinho permanently for £ 110 million when the season comes to an end.
But the Bundesliga club has no plans to activate this clause, which means that Coutinho’s future is the subject of much speculation.
Despite speculation linking him to a return to the Premier League, Thiago would love to see the Brazilian master remain in Munich.

“I know him well, he is very good,” Thiago told the Catalan newspaper La Vanguardia. “I have seen him play since he was 12. I played against him in Brazil in the soccer hall and loved him.”
“He lacks nothing. I like to play with high-level players and he is a phenomenon. He is a great guy, very hard-working, with an excellent technique and an incredible finish.”
“The players are going through good times and some not so good, and he brings us a lot. We hope he will be here next season as well.”
Meanwhile, it emerged over the weekend that Coutinho’s hopes of a return to the Premier League may hinge on whether Mauricio Pochettino takes over at Newcastle under possible new owners.

Coutinho’s agent said last month that his client “would love” to return to the Premier League, fueling speculation linking Coutinho with a move to Chelsea.
However, the Blues are unwilling to hit Barcelona’s starting price of £ 87 million for the 27-year-old, and Newcastle have emerged as a suitor thanks to Pochettino’s admiration for the former Liverpool player.
Spanish media Mundo Deportivo reports that Coutinho’s previous approach by Pochettino was blocked by Spurs president Daniel Levy and that the Argentine coach could launch again.
“Pochettino already tried last summer to sign Coutinho for Tottenham and if it was unsuccessful it was because of President Levy’s irreparable enmity with the Brazilian agent,” the report says.
“Now, with no personal issues involved, Coutinho could come to a club for which, in recent months, [Antoine] Griezmann has also sounded. “
