Pep Guardiola says Manchester City will not pressure striker Sergio Agüero to make a decision about his future.
The City’s record goalscorer is in the final year of his contract with City and will be able to speak with other clubs in January.
Aguero returned from injury in Wednesday’s Champions League win over Olympiakos and Guardiola wants him to focus on getting back into shape.
“He’s going to give us a good time this season,” said the Manchester City manager.
“He’s still not in his best shape. We can’t forget how long his injury lasted, and then he came back and got injured again.
“He needs to be very sharp. We have no doubts about his quality to score goals in the area, but he needs a little time in training and how many minutes he will have.”
“He has seven months to show. He deserves fair talks with the club to do what is best for him, the club, for everyone.”
“I was lucky enough to play with some amazing players. He sure is one of those. But especially as a human being, I have never encountered a great star like him.”
Guardiola admits that the last few days have been hard for Agüero after the death of Diego Maradona.
Agüero played with Maradona for the national team and was also once married to his daughter Giannina, who is the mother of his son.
Guardiola said: “It is difficult for me to talk about his feelings. The impact on the day of the game against Olympiakos was hard, especially for his son. It was hard, it is normal.”
“He knew Maradona and his son quite well, he is his grandfather. It is a sad situation for your family.
“Okay, but again it’s a question for him, it’s hard for me to answer.”
