The Sawla Area of the Church of Pentecost has launched its 2020 national campaign for peace.

The “Peacekeeper” campaign aims to educate and challenge church members, as well as community residents, to become peacekeepers before, during and after this year’s elections.

It was launched at the Sawla Chagbalanyiri Worship Center of the Pentecost Church with the theme: “Seek Peace and Follow It”, a theme selected from Psalm 34:14.

Apostle William Ohemeng Kwakye, the Church’s Area Chief, who launched the campaign, said it was to call for a common understanding and commitment to peace in the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.

Apostle Kwakye said that the Lord had been very merciful to the country in many ways, especially with regard to peace over the years, adding: “That is why Ghana is celebrated around the world as a peaceful country in the West African subregion and Africa as a whole. “

He affirmed that the climate of peace that the country enjoyed was not by chance, but by contributions from the different actors who sought and sought peace in previous elections.

He noted that this year’s edition of the “Agent of Peace” campaign was inspired by the Vision 2023 agenda of the Church of Pentecost, which is titled: “Possessing the Nation; equip all areas of society with values and principles in the kingdom of God ”.

Apostle Kwakye called on the leaders and members of political parties to desist from the policy of name calling, unnecessary arguing, the use of abusive language and the use of derogatory comments during their campaigns and urged young people not to allow any political parties to use to incite violence during elections.

The Deputy Superintendent of Police (ASP), Mr. Degraft Armah Agyei, Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District Police Commander, assured that the police will ensure that peace is maintained during and after elections in the district.

ASP Agyei tasked all political parties, their supporters and youth in the area to respect the law to avoid confrontation with the security agencies assigned to the service on Election Day.

NCCE officials, religious leaders, traditional leaders, representatives of the various security services, political parties and members of the Church of Pentecost were present at the ceremony.
