The Central Region branch of the National Peace Council is demanding a report on the incident of the shooting of Awutu Senya East constituency deputy Mavis Hawa Koomson.
The central regional president of the National Peace Council, Matthew Eghan, explained that the police have been silent on the matter since the case was transferred to the CID headquarters in Accra.
“If we want peace in Ghana, and in the Central Region, we call on the government and the police to investigate what happened in Kasoa and also in Ajumako-Besease, where a minister of state fired a gun,” he said.
Eghan spoke at a workshop in Assin Fosu where he noted that peace goes hand in hand with justice, therefore, if the country wants peace to prevail in the next elections, issues of this kind should not be treated lightly.
Mavis Hawa Koomson in July this year admitted to shooting a registration center in the Awutu Senya East constituency during the voter registration exercise.
This, he said, was done in self-defense.
Despite efforts to justify the move, the act was largely condemned by the public, with many calling for his arrest.
The police detained her for investigations, but then released her.
The Central Region branch of the Peace Council requests the concerned authorities to submit a report on the outcome of the incident.
