Pay more attention to the youth team: Former Kotoko Akwaffo player tells CEO

Former Asante Kotoko forward Francis Akwaffo Boateng has urged the club’s supporters and all other stakeholders to rely on the competence of CEO Nana Yaw Amponsah to succeed.

The former Porcupines forward believes his appointment is a sign of good to come for the club, but it can only happen if he is given the time and patience necessary for his project in the next three years.

Nana Yaw Amponsah, who recently appointed her 8-member management team to run the club’s affairs, is hopeful of achieving greater heights with the Kumasi-based team.

Akwaffo, who enjoyed his time at the Reds, calls for enough support and calm for the former Phar Rangers boss to succeed.

“I worked with Nana Yaw Amponsah and I was the first Kotoko player to coach. I know what he is capable of, so I ask all the fans of the club to bear with him. We should all support him and I think he will make Kotoko great, ”he told Nhyira Power Sports.

Nana Yaw Amponsah, who is very particular about youth development, has promised to build a vibrant youth team for the club that can generate revenue from player sales and also have quality players enter the senior team.

Akwaffo, who rose through the ranks of the Porcupine Warriors youth team to become a first-team regular, wants more attention to be paid to the youth team under this new leadership led by Nana Yaw Amponsah.

Francis Akwaffo Boateng played for Kotoko from 2007 to 2011.

“I am impressed that they have an interest in the youth team. This is where myself and others like Osei Kwame, Nii Baah, William Thompson, Prince Anokye became the main team under Herbert Mensah and was continued by Nana Bantamahene (Sylvester Asare Owusu) during his tenure.

What we give to seniors should also be seen at the junior level. Giving them three shirts when the older team has five will be enough to make them feel part of the team.

Kotoko benefited a lot from my time with a couple of other people, as they did not spend on recruiting quality in the team because we were ready to play at the top level of the youth team, ”Akwaffo concluded.

Nana Yaw Amponsah, however, has stated her focus on youth development by establishing the Kotoko Academy during her inauguration ceremony as CEO in August.

“A lot of attention will be paid to youth development to create and develop players for the club,” he said.

Kotoko looks forward to an ultra-modern training complex that will set the tone for the development of youth soccer at the club.

It has revealed that construction works at the Adako Jachie training complex will be completed in the next three months, as major renovations began last week before next season.
