Paul Pogba’s outing in Man Utd: Mino Raiola’s “fiasco” and the last straw

[ad_1]

Paul Pogba’s future remains up in the air, and those ties outside Manchester United will not go away.

The French midfielder has left United in spectacular fashion in the past, when he left Old Trafford to join Juventus.

Pogba’s agent, Mino Raiola, has recently stated that he never wanted to remove the United midfielder, but that Sir Alex Ferguson simply refused to play ball because of a superb new contract.

Just four years later, and with Ferguson long gone, United broke the world transfer record to re-sign Pogba for £ 89 million.

Raiola recently insisted that the Glazer family told him he was right to bring Pogba to Italy to continue his development.

So what happened for the talented boy wonder to leave United after three years in Manchester?

Impressive in the youth team

Pogba didn’t show up out of nowhere and start making demands, he had worked his way through the academy system at United.

The French teenager had joined from Le Havre and thrived on youth teams, including the 2011 FA Youth Cup winning team.

Pogba was promoted to the first team in the middle of the 2010-11 season and received jersey number 42, but he remained in the under-18 team and flourished.

Blackburn’s Fateful Game

The final straw for Pogba came during a Premier League game against Blackburn Rovers on New Year’s Eve 2011.

Despite dropping Wayne Rooney, Jonny Evans and Darren Gibson, plus Michael Carrick having to play in the back, Pogba remained on the bench.

Right-back Rafael started in the middle of midfield instead, while Pogba watched United collapse in a 3-2 loss. Despite Will Keane and Anderson coming off the bench, Pogba stayed put.

That turned out to be the final straw for Pogba, who left at the end of that season.

Ferguson vs. Raiola

Ferguson and Raiola never agreed, and the legendary Scotsman blamed the superagent almost exclusively for Pogba’s departure.

Writing in his autobiography, Ferguson stated: “” We had Paul under a three-year contract, and he had a one-year renewal option that we were eager to sign. But Raiola suddenly appeared on the scene and our first meeting was a fiasco. “

“He and I were like oil and water. From then on, our goose was cooked because Raiola had been able to ingratiate himself with Paul and his family and the player signed for Juventus ”.

Raiola’s perspective

Raiola remembers the debacle through a different lens and insists he never wanted to take Pogba away from Old Trafford.

Speaking to The Athletic last week, the Dutch-Italian agent blamed Ferguson for not believing in Pogba’s potential.

“All I have to say is that when Ferguson left Manchester United, the owner of the club [the Glazers]When I bought back from Paul Pogba, he told me he was right, “he said.

“Because I didn’t want to take Paul Pogba with me. He [Ferguson] I didn’t believe in Paul Pogba. “
