Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has called this season the most difficult of his career thus far after losing his place in the team.

The Frenchman, who had coronavirus over the summer, has only completed 90 minutes twice this season and has been routinely benched by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in favor of a more disciplined and defensive retention duo of Scott McTominay and Fred.

Pogba has also faced uncertainty surrounding his future, with his contract expiring in 18 months, while he was disappointed that the club did not consult him before activating an extension clause.

The 27-year-old has spent the past week with France, helping the team beat Portugal on Saturday night, and it has been a welcome change of pace for Pogba after a difficult period at United.

“I have never known such a difficult period in my career,” the midfielder told RTL France on Sunday.

“The France team is a breath of fresh air, the group is exceptional, it is magical.”

France coach Didier Deschamps spoke about Pogba’s troubles at United after his shocking midweek loss to Finland and feels his situation with the Red Devils has affected him on and off the pitch.

He is not in his best shape, of course. I knew that before the game, “said the French coach on Friday.

This match was meant to give him some rhythm. He knew he would only play for an hour.

‘It’s hard to remember to be positive. Obviously, he is not in one of his best periods.

Like all players who have a club situation that is not positive, they are also mentally shocked. I know him quite well and it can happen at times. ”
