Paul Pogba is reportedly looking to exhaust his contract at Man Utd to walk away with a free transfer.
The Frenchman’s current contract expires at the end of next season after United activated their option to extend it for another year last month.
Pogba has considered making a long-term commitment to United but, according to The Athletic, he now sees next summer as the perfect starting point.
By then, he will be 29 years old and will probably be chasing the last big contract of his career.
Leaving Old Trafford as a free agent would bring many offers to the table, and Pogba believes he could have “his pick” of the clubs.
United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted in his press conference on Friday that Pogba was unhappy after a disappointing start to the season.
Just last week, Pogba hinted at his discontent while in international service.
“It’s not that we don’t have fun at the club, but here [with France] is not the same. We laugh. It really is a family, “Pogba said.
The issue of a new contract for Pogba has been broached, but he has shown little interest in compromising his future with United, which could force them to take a compromised position.
Pogba has made no secret of his desire to complete a “dream” transfer to Real Madrid, and United may look to ditch the midfielder in the summer rather than lose him for nothing the following year.
United have already seen Pogba leave once for free when he left the club’s academy to join Juventus, before buying him back for £ 89 million.
Losing him again for nothing would raise more questions about United’s recruiting strategy and raise more scrutiny over Executive Vice President Ed Woodward and Chief of Transfers Matt Judge.
Sky Sports expert Jamie Carragher had no doubts about what United should do when talking about Pogba earlier this month.
“I think in a way you could say that everyone is unhappy with his position because the fact that we are still talking about what Paul Pogba’s best position is when he’s been at the club for four years, I think it tells him that he never will. he’s done well enough in whatever position or tactical setup the coaches have had at Manchester United, “Carragher told talkSPORT.
“I know you could say that the other players are not great [at United] but when you’re that man to take United to the next level, and people can say it’s too much pressure for one man, that’s almost what they told us would come.
“This package, the most expensive player in the world, can do everything in midfield, he did it for Juventus, but he has not done it for Manchester United. I would be looking to change it next summer.”
