Paul Pogba recovers from bad start to help France win international

Paul Pogba’s international break has ended with great success after two consecutive victories.

Pogba’s France beat Sweden 4-2 on Tuesday night, following a 1-0 win over Portugal days earlier. Last week, Les Bleus had suffered a surprise defeat to Finland.

The night did not start out too well for Pogba. In the fourth minute he struggled to clear a cross, then missed a tackle, when Viktor Claessen opened the scoring.

Pogba’s night got better. He helped France get back into the game and had more touches than any midfielder on the field.

The Manchester United star touched the ball 87 times in total, a number second only to Swedish center-back Marcus Danielson.

Pogba completed 87.7 percent of his passes, while creating an opportunity.

He made three interceptions, won two aerial duels and completed seven long passes.

Impressed manager

French coach Didier Deschamps was pleased with Pogba’s contribution.

Speaking to RMC Sport, he said: “You just have to see what he did.

“With what he is capable of doing in Portugal and tonight… He has pride, pride and above all talent.

“When you have to defend, he is capable of defending. And when you have to project yourself, he is capable of projecting.

“If you have to make a decisive pass… There it is. Paul, he’s a first-rate player. “

Now the hard work begins

Pogba now returns to United and will be needed before a hectic winter schedule.

Even if the first match against West Brom does not start, it will be necessary in subsequent games, with United against Istanbul Basaksehir and PSG at home in the Champions League before the end of the month.

He has played 237 minutes in three games during the international break, and this will have helped him improve his physical form.

With extra fitness and confidence behind him after playing 90 minutes in two consecutive victories, Pogba could end up being United’s big winner in the international break.
