The three parliamentary candidates from the Lower Manya Krobo constituency have successfully participated in a parliamentary debate organized by the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE).
The main objective of the debate was to provide a platform for the three parliamentary candidates in the area to sell their campaign messages to the public.
Ms. Jemima Mensah, NCCE Municipal Director of Lower Manya Krobo, indicated that the debate is part of the Commission’s efforts to promote an issue-based campaign that enables voters to make informed decisions on December 7, 2020.
She said the debate was to provide an opportunity for potential Members of Parliament (MPs) in the area to interact with their constituents in a more coordinated way and pleaded with everyone to tolerate the political views of others before, during and after the elections to guarantee free and fair elections.
However, two of the three candidates vying for the Lower Manya Krobo seat, including Mr. Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi (NDC) and the incumbent MP and Mr. Daniel Ofoe (GUM), did not appear for debate, leaving the Mr. Samuel Nuertey Ayertey, PNP Candidate and Vice Minister of the Eastern Region, had enough time to outline his vision for the area when he is given the go-ahead.
The PNP candidate indicated that illiteracy was one of the main concerns of the people and said that he would contact the District Directorate of Education to continuously raise awareness among community members about the benefits of education to help minimize the situation.
Mr. Ayertey, speaking about what he intended to do for people with disabilities (PWD), said that it would provide office space for conferences and workshops, as well as a means of transportation to facilitate their commuting.
He revealed that more than 30 youth had participated in the Youth program in a district Assembly learning program and noted that when cleared, he would work with the Assembly to expand the program for the benefit of more youth.
He said that the Krobo area had received a fair share of the development agenda, contrary to perceptions that the PNP did not focus on the Krobo area and asked the electorate to vote en masse for him and President Akufo-Addo, the December 7th.
