The Government says it is satisfied with the pace of the COVID-19 vaccination program, as more than 400,000 people have already received the vaccine.

Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said the government is encouraged by the high turnout in the various vaccination centers.

He added that development shows that initial resistance and skepticism about the vaccine have been adequately addressed.

“We realized that the levels of hesitancy we recorded in our baseline survey of about 60% have now been gradually decreasing and even in some places there is even a rush with people who are even willing to pay for the vaccine they are getting. we are dealing. ” he said.

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah further encouraged Ghanaians not to give up adhering to the existing COVID-19 safety protocols despite the implementation of the vaccination program.

“Looking ahead, we must understand how to take the vaccine and develop immunity, but still comply with what we call the new normal, that is, the use of a nasal mask, social distancing and hand washing,” he added.

Ghana began vaccinating its population as of March 1, 2021 in a phased approach with President Nana Akufo-Addo and other members of the executive taking the vaccine publicly.

The action was to help put at bay the many conspiracy theories surrounding vaccines and the skepticism about their safety expressed by some Ghanaians.
