The Democratic National Congress (NDC) insists that the party was embarking on a peaceful demonstration until police were present using maximum force on the protesters.
Speaking to Happy FM’s Sefa Danquah on the ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ program, Greater Accra National Democratic Congress (NDC) regional organizer Anthony Nukpenu said: “Live bullets and tear gas are not used to work.
They applied maximum force. If we burn tires, is it government property? Even George Floyd’s protests saw some burned tires. Should you kill someone for burning tires? When you don’t apply common sense in your so-called maximum strength, you create tension. You could have used reasonable force for tear gas. “
Anthony confirmed that at least thirteen people were injured and are receiving treatment from Ridge Hospital and other private hospitals. He continued that the actions of the police were so bad that the tear gas affected others who were in their offices and were not part of the demonstration.
Meanwhile, he claims that the party’s standard-bearer will address the country on election-related issues. “There will be a press conference at the headquarters. The standard-bearer will address the nation in due time in the wake of the pink sheets, ”he added.
Hundreds of supporters of the Democratic National Congress stormed the Electoral Commission headquarters demanding that the Commission declare John Mahama president-elect.
But what began as a peaceful protest turned violent when supporters blocked the Accra-Kanda stretch of the highway and set truck tires on fire.
