Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah says the government has been prepared to receive more fabricated and elaborate information from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to him, with the 2020 elections only a few days away, the NDC will use all possible means to influence the votes in its favor and false information is one of its tactics.

Therefore, he called on the media to be vigilant and verify each information before publishing it.

“We expect a series of fake news this week. One of them is a 2016 campaign donation someone made to then-candidate Akufo-Addo. They have created a fake newspaper to spread false information. It’s a clear desperate attempt in this last week of a failed campaign to publish made-up stories like they did in 2008.

“This week, there will be many of these stories, but I will urge everyone to be vigilant, especially our fellow journalists. When you see something circulating, you don’t just post it, you submit it for review, “he said on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo program.

Kojo Oppong also named some NDC bigwigs whom he believes are behind the ‘false stories’ that characterized the 2008 elections.

“We think the NDC is behind this. I have mentioned the name of Fiifi Kwetey and everyone knows that he is a Member of the NDC. Everyone knows Victor Smith. The Honorable Inusah Fuseini. The one that came out this week is circulating on the NDC platforms ”.

Oppong Nkrumah, however, is confident that the hoax stories will have no impact on Nana Akufo-Addo’s chances in the 2020 election.

He believes that the December 7 elections are a foregone conclusion for Nana Akufo-Addo and the PNP deputies.

“This very morning they (NDC) have issued a statement that they are going to amend their manifesto … before, when the NPP surpassed their manifesto, they had to postpone theirs for another week until September 7 … so they want tell us that you have now realized the need to modify it? “he questioned.

He further added: “It shows you the desperation of the NDC especially in this last week of the campaign. Their campaign has ‘sunk’, they know they are going to lose. “
