The Greater Accra Association of Assemblymen believes that the commitment to pay members a monthly salary can only be fulfilled by a government headed by President Akufo-Addo.
In a courtesy visit to the president on Tuesday, November 10, 2020, Stephen Kwasi Acquah, a spokesman for the Association, indicated that the promise to pay salaries to assembly members is a call in the right direction.
“However, in the 2012 and 2016 manifestos of John Mahama and his NDC, the candidate who tells us today that he will pay us if he wins the 2020 elections, the promise to pay the members of the Assembly was made in those manifestos.” the spokesman said. .
He continued: “He (John Mahama) broke the promise he made to pay us when we voted for him in 2012, and that is why we did not vote for him again in 2016, even though he had repeated that promise.”
Mr. Stephen Kwasi Acquah, on behalf of the Greater Accra Association, stated that “if there is anyone that we believe can pay Assemblymen on a monthly basis, then it has to be Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.”
When outlining the policies implemented by the government of Akufo-Addo since 2017 to date, the spokesperson for the Association indicated that the SHS Libre, 1-Distrito-1-Fábrica, the National Builders Corps and the Planting for Food and Jobs have proved extremely beneficial to them and the constituents they represented.
“Before the start of Free SHS, we always woke up when parents were knocking on our doors and couldn’t afford to bring their pupils to school. The implementation of Free SHS has taken the burden off us because of NABCO, and no one harasses us for jobs, “he added.
Thanking the president for taking the time to meet with them, Stephen Kwasi Acquah emphasized that “we believe that if we support him and make sure that he is four more years old, our circumstances, as members of the Assembly, will be better under his rule.”
For his part, President Akufo-Addo told the Association members that “I really like the commitment that has been made” to ensure that there is no return to power of the NDC.
“The environment in the country is good for us. The people of Ghana are very happy with the work that has been done for them during my first term, so please help me spread the message to every corner of the country. We cannot afford any complacency. The election is not won until the last vote has been counted and we have to make sure that everyone who has registered goes out to vote, ”added President Akufo-Addo.
