One person is said to have been injured after police threw hot water on him during the National Democratic Congress (NDC) protest in the Ashanti region against the outcome of the 2020 general election.
The NDC leadership and more than 1,000 supporters marched through the main streets of Kumasi to express their discontent against Election Commissioner Jean Mensa.
Supporters, despite the peaceful demonstration, blocked roads and burned tires creating congestion and vehicular traffic in parts of the garden city.
Police trying to put out the fire with their water cannons spilled some on some NDC supporters, one of whom was injured.
The victim was rushed to Manhyia Government Hospital for treatment.
NDC regional Ashanti organizer Isham Alhassan, speaking in an interview with Pure FM’s Osei Kwadwo monitored by MyNewsGh.com, revealed that police arrested 2 supporters during the protest.
According to Isham Alhassan, the NDC leadership will guarantee bail for those arrested, although he was unable to give reasons for his arrest.
“The demonstration was peaceful but the supporters were many and we could not control them. Burning tires during a demonstration is normal and does not take the peace out of our demonstration, ”Isham said.
Meanwhile, NDC executives are currently at the Ashanti regional police headquarters to secure bail for arrested NDC supporters who police say violated some rules in their street protest.
