President Nana Akufo-Addo has warned his new sworn ministers to remain committed to fighting corruption, as it is part of their commitment to the public.

The president who addressed ministers at Flagstaff House during the swearing-in ceremony said the issue of corruption in public life was a major issue in the 2016 election.

Nana Addo said: “The people of Ghana want an honest government. They want a government that protects the public purse and guarantees good value for money in all public transactions. We cannot fail them and we must not fail them. ”

The manifesto of the party that fought in the 2016 elections, he pointed out, made a comprehensive undertaking to guarantee public accountability.

The manifesto, he added, has committed the PNP government to establish, through an act of Parliament, a Special Prosecutor’s Office independent from the executive with the exclusive mandate to: ‘Investigate and prosecute certain categories of cases and accusations of corruption and other criminal offenses; Including those that imply an alleged violation of the public procurement law and cases that involve public officials and politicians.

The office of the Special Prosecutor, he explained, will be created in a manner consistent with the constitution and its independence, will be protected and free from any change, bewitchment and political harassment.

He also commissioned his ministers to declare his assets as he did a few days ago.

He declared his assets on January 24, 2017, a day after the Department told him that it was impossible for him to do so because the office had run out of receipt brochures.
