Alan Shearer expects Chelsea to beat Atlético de Madrid in the Champions League
As the Daily Star reported, English soccer legend Alan Shearer has supported Chelsea to reach the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.
The Blues got a tough draw when we drew Atlético de Madrid in the round of 16. The La Liga team is one of the most tenacious contenders in the competition and will prove to be a real test.
He will also see us face to face against former Chelsea striker Diego Costa. The veteran may not be the tour de force of yesteryear, but he is still a player to be reckoned with.
“I would expect all English teams to progress in the Champions League.”
Having played in Europe’s leading competition for three years with Newcastle United, Shearer is keenly aware of what it takes to compete among the best.
He believes that the three remaining English teams in the competition are capable of advancing to the last eight of the tournament.
“City, Chelsea and Liverpool have a very good chance of reaching the quarter-finals.”
Liverpool take on RB Leipzig while Manchester City take on Borussia Monchengladbach in what is comparatively the easiest of the three clashes.
Shearer, however, hopes that defending champion Bayern Munich will not go down this season. The German giants have looked impressive with Hansi Flick and remain one of the favorites for the title.
The Bavarians are a team Chelsea are familiar with, having faced them in the knockout stages last season. Then a team in transition, we were beaten on both legs.

Although Atlético represents a huge challenge, the Blues have players at their disposal to face the threat of the Spanish. Hopefully our new signings will get under way.
The Blues last won the competition in 2013. So far, we remain the only London-based team to win the biggest competition in Europe.
