Ole Gunnar Solskjaer offers Donny van de Beek a new hope of boosting his career at Man Utd

Donny van de Beek has returned from the Netherlands in his shooting boots, says Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Solskjaer revealed that the Dutch midfielder had a jump in his stride and scored some crackers in practice after scoring for the Netherlands in 7-0 at Gibraltar.

And he hopes the £ 37 million midfielder can jump-start his United career in the final games of the season after a disappointing start in England.

“Donny scored some absolute cookies when we got back to training on Friday,” Solskjaer said.

“He scored some absolute goals, highs that I would be very proud of myself and it has done him a lot of good, to go away and score a goal for the Netherlands.

“We hope we can see a lot of that during the next eight weeks of the season and then start over.

“Sometimes it is natural that if you don’t play and you have injuries you lose a bit of confidence and spark.

“Then you go with your team and you feel good. I can speak from my own experience, sometimes I went back to playing for Norway and you feel better about yourself.

Van de Beek has struggled to make his way into Solskjaer’s plans during his debut season.

The Dutchman has made just two Premier League starts as he struggles to usurp Bruno Fernandes in the starting eleven.

His signing came as a surprise since his style is so similar to Fernandes’.

There has already been speculation about a move away, but Solskjaer seems committed to making the transfer work.
