Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has inspected the ongoing work on the 30-kilometer Anhwiankwanta-Obuasi highway, as well as the ongoing construction of city roads within Obuasi municipality.
While inspecting the works on Wednesday, November 4, 2020, on Day 1 of his 4-day tour of the Greater Accra region, the contractor, Messrs. Joshob Construction, told President Akufo-Addo that the Anhwiankwanta-Obuasi project It is being built at a cost of GH ¢ 321.9 million cedis.
The entire 30-kilometer road section has been formed and the sub-base has been placed, having placed 20 kilometers and 15 kilometers of crushed stone base and asphalt binder respectively.
The contractor told the president that physical progress is 70% complete, emphasizing that project implementation is ahead of schedule and, unless there is a challenge, the road will be completed 18 months ahead of schedule.
The contractor said that once completed, the highway will improve socioeconomic activities and facilitate the efficient movement of people, goods and services in Anhwiankwanta, Daa, Patasi, Kwapia, Dadwen and the contiguous municipalities of Obuasi and Bekwai, among others.
The president also inspected the work in progress on the GH ¢ 128.92 million Obuasi Town Roads project, which is being carried out by Messrs. Justmoh Construction Ltd. The objective of this project is to review the road network within Obuasi and give the municipality a facelift in accordance with its golden status. and district capital and improve the mobility and security of people, goods and services.
Since the project started on March 17, 2020, it is expected to be completed on March 15, 2022, which is a construction period of 24 months.
The scope of the works includes upgrading 10 km of unpaved roads to a bituminous seal finish and coating an additional 20 km arterial and collector road with a wear layer of asphalt concrete. In order to improve the road and general drainage within the municipality, 23 km of concrete-lined cross drainage structures, drainage and roadside structures will also be built.
Among the main roads to be rehabilitated are Abompekrom Road, Assembly Road, Church Road, Hospital Road, Neighborhood Clinic Road, Mensahkrom Road -Sec Tech, JJ-Queen Egyima Road, Queen Egyima-Post Office Road, First Allied-Central Mosque, Odotobri Carretera, Melcom-Stadium Road, Estate Roads, DUR Road, Ahasonyemedea Road
So far, around 7.8 km of concrete lined roads and 105 m of cross drainage structures and 10 km of asphalt concrete lined roads have been built. Physical progress is currently 38.6%.
