Obuasi Complex Junior High School are the winners of the 2020 Anglogold Ashanti Annual Quiz Contest held at Obuasi.
In a competition involving Independence JHS A and B and Sanso JHS, Obuasi Complex won with 60 points Sanso JHS came in second with 35 points while Independence JHS A and B came in third and fourth with 32 and 22 points respectively.
For his award, Complex received four computers, a printer, four boxes of large pens, 200 exercise books, two dictionaries for his libraries, and a trophy.
Contestants also received tablets, backpacks, 20 exercise books each, 10 notebooks each with a paper cover, a dictionary, a math game, and gold medals.
In collaboration with the Ghana Education Service, the annual questionnaire competition is part of AngloGold Ashanti’s Educational Improvement Program (EIP), which involves 43 schools in the area.
In shedding light on the Educational Improvement Plan, Anglogold Ashanti’s Senior Sustainability Manager, Mina Obuasi, Emmanuel Baidoo said, it is one of the strategic pillars in the Social Management Plan launched last year to help diversify and grow the Obuasi economy and ensure development. in their host communities.
The EIP, he noted, is aimed at increasing the pass rate in the Basic Education Certificate Exam (BECE) in Obuasi from 81 percent to 90 percent by 2021.
Obuasi Municipal Executive Director Elijah Adansi Bonah, who was present at the final, said that the game show has become the foundation of education at Obuasi.
He urged parents to support their children and encourage them to participate in the questionnaire whenever it is organized.
He urged students to take their studies seriously so that they can access higher education.
Obuasi East District Education Director Leticia Obeng said her team had a memorandum of understanding with AGA to see the development of education in Adansi and particularly in Obuasi and the quiz is one of many interventions to help in the development of education.
He said that the platform is for learning and supporting the contestants and expressed his sincere thanks to AGA for their support and also to the teachers for preparing the students.
One of the contestants from the Obuasi Complex, Jeffery Asiedu expressed his joy and thanked AGA for said program and appealed to them to continue organizing such programs to challenge his colleagues to also learn more to be awarded like him.
Nana Amonimaa Dede, Adansihemaa expressed her gratitude to AGA for the good works they are doing in Obuasi and Adansi in general.
He also urged students to work harder to be successful in the future.
