President Akufo-Addo called on the New Patriotic Party (PNP) leadership on Thursday to stay focused and united to ensure the party’s stability and progress.
He said infighting and accusations would create enemy volatilities for the party, which in turn could give the opposition some serious political capital.
“The most important thing we must do at this stage is to stick together … is to strengthen our unity and maintain our morale,” he said in a meeting with the PNP regional executives and the presidents of the electoral districts in the Greater Accra region. , at Jubilee House, Accra.
“If we are going to spend a lot of energy pointing fingers at each other, none of those things will be accomplished,” he told them.
The president told the party leaders that what should occupy them was to counteract the false narratives propagated by the opposition about the outcome of the December 2020 elections.
“So I want you to keep that in mind, you will have something else, very important in mind, these NDC people making so much noise, we won, we won, remember they started, once we even went to 145 seats, they could never be very clear how many with 139, 140, 141, 145, Mahama had won the elections.
“It turned out that it was all false, and we must remember that since Jerry John Rawlings left the presidential scene of politics in our country, no NDC presidential candidate has won more than 51 percent of the vote. His successor Mills, in his first round against Kufour 44 percent, second round 47 percent.
“When it came to the second time against Kufour the same figures and in 2008. When he played against me after three rounds he got 50.03 percent of the votes. Mahama in 2012 got 50.7, in 2016, 44 percent. percent of the votes, in 2020 47 percent of the votes.
“What these figures tell us is that whenever PNP we put our actions together we win,” he said.
President Akufo-Addo reinforced the fact that “the majority is with us, so let’s be very clear in our mind, our opponent with all the shouts does not have the support of the majority of the people of our country.”
“So the future of Ghana, the future of this country is in our hands. It is the function of how we behave, how we organize ourselves that will determine how the country will also advance,” he emphasized.
