The opposition Democratic National Congress has accused the PNP administration of empowering the party’s vigilantes in the country.

According to NDC presidential candidate John Dramani Mahama, the government has neglected its responsibility to fund the Police Service and is instead using state funds to provide resources to vigilante groups.

“Now instead of equipping the police with guns, bulletproof vests and the things they need to fight armed robbers, they are using those guns and bulletproof vests and vehicles to hand over to their vigilantes to terrorize Ghanaians,” Mahama said. .

He made this comment during a rally in Yendi where he also noted that this has resulted in an increase in robbery attacks in the country.

The former president added that, unlike his days in office, Ghanaians feel very insecure under the PNP government.

Therefore, he urged the voters of the Northern Region to give him the go-ahead in the upcoming elections so that he can effectively face the security challenges in the country.

“Today you cannot travel freely in this part of the country without fear of falling into the hands of armed robbers,” he said.

“It is when NDC is in power that we feel safe and secure. Every time the NDC leaves power, we have an increase in armed robbery, ”added Mahama.

For his part, the minority leader and MP for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu also alleged that the ruling government plans to recruit non-professional officers into the Police Service to terrorize the electorates in the upcoming elections.

“Nana Akufo-Addo and the Inspector General of Police plan to commission 1,800 police officers tomorrow who have not been properly trained and who have been trained below the minimum requirement of six months of intensive training,” he said.

In fact, he asked Ghanaians to vote for the NDC in the next election.
