ESSIKADO KETAN NPP STATEMENT ON THE 2020 ELECTIONS
We have been struck by false and unsubstantiated accusations of alleged massive fraud by the PNP in recent parliamentary elections.
We had received unconfirmed reports that the NDC was seeking to rig the elections, so we in the PNP were very vigilant on Election Day.
The voting ended at 5:00 pm and our election agents did not report any serious incidents at the various polling stations. The count was made at each voting station in public view and the result at each voting station was declared at each voting station. Subsequently, the necessary documentation, the pink sheet, was duly completed and signed by all the parties present.
Our representatives went to the Essikado Ketan Constituency Collation Center which is located in the Methodist Church, Brigade Hall, Essikado. The Electoral Commission Officials began to receive the ballot boxes and electoral material from their officials who came from the different polling stations.
At the time, NDC supporters led by his candidate Grace Ayensu Danquah and other party members, including the former Minister of National Security, rushed to the Collation Center claiming that the NDC had won the parliamentary elections. At that time we had not even collected the presidential vote. Its members carrying knives and other implements began to throw stones at the Collation Center. There was absolutely no basis for this commotion. Nor was there any basis for the claim that NDC had won the parliamentary elections when the results of the various polling stations had not been officially collected and announced by the returning official. Around 11pm, Grace Ayensu and her team left the Collection Center after being repelled by the police and the military when they tried to seize the Collection Center.
The compilation of the presidential results began and ended around 9.50 a.m. This was won by Nana Akufo-Addo. The compilation of the parliamentary results began around 10 in the morning.
Three members of the NDC were present. This included an Alidiu who introduced himself as the NDC youth organizer and a lawyer who said he was representing the NDC parliamentary candidate. During the compilation, NDC representatives raised issues from time to time and only after the issues they raised were resolved did the EC continue the process.
At the end of the process, the returning official announced the votes of the three candidates who stood in the parliamentary elections in the Essikado Ketan constituency and declared our candidate, Joe Ghartey, the winner. We challenge the NDC to prove allegations of fraud in the appropriate places.
Signed
Thomas amoah
District Secretary
