The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the largest opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), yesterday had political tantrums over the compilation of a new register of voters by the Electoral Commission (EC) for the general elections 2020.
At a press conference yesterday, the NDC accused President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of partnering with the EC and the National Identification Authority (NIA) to use the compilation of a new voter registry to manipulate the 2020 elections.
However, the PNP responded with its own press conference later in the day and said it did not need the EC to manipulate the 2020 elections in its favor to win the election.
According to the PNP, he intended to fight and win the elections based on his excellent performance in government.
The PNP also wondered why the NDC was so obsessed with forcing the current registry that it was compiled in 2012 by the throat of the EC and the Ghanaians.
“What is it about the 2012 record that the NDC is threatening a civil war if it trades for a better one?” the nuclear power plant asked.
NDC press conference
At the NDC press conference, the party’s National President, Mr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, said that the heads of the EC and NIA intended to manipulate the elections by denying some 11 million Ghanaians the Card Ghana to allow them to participate in the EC planned compilation of new Voters registering.
He said that most of those who would be denied the Ghana Card were in the NDC fortress.
According to him, the EC decision to use the Ghana Card and passport as the only documents required to register to vote was a calculated plan as part of the fraud process, as many people would be deprived of their rights.
“As we predicted, the NIA registration process for Ghana cards has been very slow, so to date, the process that started with a pilot in late 2017 and was supposed to be completed in one year, just It was able to register 11,062,055 of some 19 million Ghanaians (aged 15 and over) who are eligible to be registered.
Even weirder is the fact that of these 11 million Ghanaians who have registered, only 7,074,048 have received cards (according to the NIA website https: nia.gov.gh) as of May 2, 2020), “he explained .
Chair in bed with CE and NIA
The NDC National President said President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo supported fraud attempts by the EC and NIA.
“Having failed to deliver on his promises to the people of this country, and seeing defeat looking dazzlingly at him, President Akufo-Addo along with the EC led by Jean Mensah and the NIA led by Ken Attafuah are desperately planning to manipulate the 2020 general election and hold on to power at all costs, ”he said.
Excellent performance
However, at a press conference, the PNP’s campaign manager for the 2020 elections, Peter Mac Manu, said that the PNP would win the 2020 elections based on its strong performance.
“We do not need the EC to manipulate an election in our favor. We intend to fight and win in December based on our performance.
“A government that has placed 1.3 million children in school does not need an election to be manipulated in their favor. A government that has restored industries and is creating jobs for industries does not need elections to be manipulated in its favor.
“A government that has put the common Ghanaian’s interest first, whether it is protecting the money of millions of depositors or absorbing the cost of electricity and water for Ghanaians when there is a crisis, does not need to manipulate the elections,” he said.
Mahama clueless
The nuclear plant’s campaign manager said the NDC should not waste Ghanaians’ time, but should “face the realities of the time” and find ways to convince Ghanaians why they should vote for their flag bearer, former President John Dramani Mahama.
“The NDC must convince Ghanaians why they should bring back an inept, clueless, and incompetent Mahama after he toppled the country the way he did,” he said.
New Voter Registration
Mac Manu said that although the PNP supported the compilation of a new voter registry, the party was not basing its electoral fortune on the registry.
“With or without a new registry, the PNP is ready to campaign and win the backing of the overwhelming majority of the people of Ghana once again in the upcoming polls, based solely on what we are delivering to protect and improve the lives of people in the country, “he said.
