The New Patriotic Party (PNP) in the North Western region has accused Bia East Member of Parliament Richard Acheampong of setting up a vigilante group ahead of the December elections.

The NDC deputy, they said, is the sole founder of a vigilante group known as ‘De Eye’ and the financier of all its activities in the Bia East district.

They also alleged that the mandate of the group ‘De Eye’ is to suppress dissenting opinions by attacking anyone who criticizes or campaigns against the re-election of Richard Acheampong, the incumbent MP.

According to Felix Foster Ackah, the NPP North West Regional Communication Director, the MP is enthusiastically creating and sponsoring vigilantism activities rather than focusing on securing infrastructure such as hospitals, better schools, high schools, passable roads, communication networks and work for young.

Ackah, who addressed the press at a meeting in Adabokrom, added that Richard Acheampong has constituted a clear violation of Sections 3 (1) (a) (b) and 3 (2) of the Surveillance and Related Crimes Act of 2019 (Law 999) that prohibits the creation of said group.

Therefore, he asks that said deputy be sanctioned in accordance with the law.
