The Comptroller General of the Ghana Immigration Service, Kwame Asuah Takyi, has observed that now is the time for stakeholders to be adequately resourced for the service.

He says the service is actively working to deal with major threats and will need all the support it can get.

“I must say that the vehicles arrived in a better period in which the service is actively responding to the current security challenges that tend to undermine Ghana’s border security.

“Current developments along borders highlight the need for more support to equip the service with adequate resources to improve its operational capabilities. The opportunity for swift emergencies requires reserve teams at this crucial time, ”said Mr. Asuah Takyi.

He was speaking when the German Embassy presented 6 patrol vehicles and a bus to the Rapid Response Unit of the Ghana Immigration Service.

“The Ghana Immigration Service considers the commitment and support of the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Ghana Immigration Service to be essential in managing border security for the mutual benefit of the two countries,” noted Mr. Asuah Takyie.

He said that the creation of the Rapid Response Unit is one of the interventions aimed at providing support to the different operational units such as the Border Patrol Unit and the Enforcement Division. He revealed that the unit’s officers have received enhanced training from the Ghana Police Service Counter-Terrorism Training School and the Ghana Armed Forces Training School.

Officers, he said, constitute the basic personnel to support current operations when the demand requires it, especially along the borders.

“The vehicles will help in the fight against illegal entry and undesirable elements and other transnational crimes at the borders. I am confident that the vehicles will boost the morale of the officers to respond quickly to emergency calls from operational teams that may have been attacked, ”said Asuah Takyi.

Germany’s Deputy Ambassador to Ghana, Heldge Sander, who delivered the vehicles, noted that “the threat of terrorist activities coming mainly from neighboring northern states has become more acute in recent years.” He promised the German government’s continued support to the Ghana Immigration Service.
