Former President Jerry John Rawlings’ Office says there won’t be a week-long ceremony in his honor.

This was announced in a press release signed by the Communications Department and spotted by JoyNews.

According to the November 14 statement, “all flyers and other communications announcing such a ceremony are false and should be ignored.”

The statement that was signed by Kobina Andoh Amoakwa also said that people who wish to call the family of the late former president to express their condolences will be greeted by pre-arranged appointments.

“Due to the Covid-19 protocols, the office kindly informs all groups and institutions that obtain appointments that visitors with appointments who arrive at the former president’s office without nasal masks will not be allowed in,” he added.

The statement also urged the general public and supporters to visit the Ghana International Conference Center to sign the book of condolences opened in honor of the late president, who passed away on Thursday, November 12 after a brief illness.

Meanwhile, the opposition Democratic National Congress (NDC) announced that it will hold a vigil in honor of the late former president.

The vigil is expected to begin on Sunday, November 15 at Obra Spot in Accra from 5 pm to 12 midnight.

“Accordingly, it has been decided that the NDC’s funeral activities for the founder will begin immediately and continue until his burial,” said a statement signed by the party’s secretary general, Johnson Asiedu Nketia.
