President Akufo-Addo has no equal when it comes to industrializing the country into the Fourth Republic, the ruling New Patriotic Party (PNP) has said.
“Although we do not have a factory in each district, the progress made in the industrialization of Ghana by the government of President Akufo-Addo is unparalleled in the history of the fourth republic,” Nana Akomea, member of the party’s communications team. said.
At a press conference in Accra on Monday, Akomea argued that under the Akufo-Addo administration Ghana has experienced the most determined push to achieve an industrial economy since President Nkrumah.
“We Ghanaians, particularly young people, must vote for this determined effort to ensure an industrialized country that produces and sells for export and the local market, chocolate instead of cocoa beans, gold trinkets / ornaments instead of raw metal, aluminum ingots instead of bauxite, cassava and potato chips along with raw cassava and potato, yam chips along with yam, processed pepper along with raw pepper, canned tomatoes along with raw produce, fragrant rice instead of raw raw rice , etc etc. ”He accused.
He continued: “This industrial push, coupled with the free SHS and systematic digitization of Ghana’s social and economic processes, will assure us much … a country where no young people are uneducated, with a vibrant industrial economy and a modernized digital society. “.
After Ghana’s independence in 1957, Akomea stated that President Nkrumah made a determined effort to industrialize the county by establishing dozens of factories, particularly in Tema.
However, 50 years after President Nkrumah, “we are still not an industrialized economy that is capable of generating thousands of jobs for young people, in a sustainable way,” said the CEO of STC Ghana Limited.
“That is why President Akufo-Addo, in his determination to transform the economy of this country, to assure this country all the benefits of a rich economy, promised this country that he would make another determined effort to industrialize this country, doubling the promise 1D1F, ”he said.
The Akufo-Addo government since 2017 has facilitated the installation of factories throughout the country, in a new effort and determined plan to achieve an industrial economy.
Under a new one, away from the traditional and direct use of public funds, whether borrowed or collected through taxes, to establish factories, private companies are establishing them and the government provides the enabling environment and support.
“This model has been carefully designed to avoid the mistakes of the past and to guarantee success. This model and process aims to ensure that the factory has a great opportunity to be successful and create jobs, contribute to the added value of agricultural products and overall to Ghana’s GDP, without undue exposure of taxpayer funds. Akomea said.
Seventy-six 1D1F factories are in operation as of July 2020, of these, 28 are new factories, while 48 are existing factories that have taken advantage of the 1D1F scheme to expand and add new production units. In total, a total of 232 factories are also in various stages of completion.
