The Deputy Minister of Agriculture, responsible for Horticulture, Kennedy Osei Nyarko, has suggested that the ruling government has much to celebrate when it comes to the agricultural sector.
Speaking with Kwabena Agyapong on RainbowRadio 87.5Fm, he said that there is no government that can compare his record with that of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in the area of agriculture.
“The government of the nuclear power plant has made agriculture attractive in Ghana and the government had a clear vision of how it wanted to transform agriculture in Ghana,” he said.
The NPP, he said, has developed a thoughtful plan and policies to transform the agricultural sector.
“In the past, we imported corn into the country. We couldn’t produce enough. But from May 2017 to date, we have increased the metric tons of corn produced from 1.2 to 2.9 metric tons. For rice, we inherited 360,000 tons metrics “. but we have increased it to 680,000, which represents more than 50% of our annual consumption ”.
With regard to livestock, he claimed that the poultry industry had collapsed when the nuclear power plant took over, but the administration led by Nana Addo has invested heavily in the sector and has revived it.
“The government has performed well. Our raising for food and employment has transformed lives and has also created jobs for a number of Ghanaians.”
“We have done well, but we have not done everything. We need four more years to do more. Our request for more years is to continue and complete our work. We can’t blow our trumpet, but Ghana’s farmers will tell you that they have benefited from the policies of the nuclear power plant government. We will congratulate the Ghanaians for their support, ”he added.
