Following a meeting on Tuesday between the current Barcelona management and the players on the proposed salary cuts, the proposal from the club’s hierarchy has been received with deaf ears.

Last week, the players and the club had until Wednesday, October 11 to find a solution and will meet again to try to unravel the situation, although it seems that an agreement is a long way off.

Barcelona maintains the policy of reducing all salaries, in a similar way to that proposed by former president Josep Maria Bartomeu, since they intend to save 190 million euros. It has been proposed to extend the contracts for a longer period, but retain the general salary.

On the general situation in the dressing room, there is also the future of Lionel Messi, which is yet to be decided. The Argentine is out of contract on June 30, 2021 and until a new president is elected (the elections still do not have a fixed date), his future will not be set in stone.

A positive aspect is that several members of the Barça squad have already settled their corner, with Marc-Andre and his Stegen, whose renewal has been pending for months, plus Clement Lenglet, Gerard Piqué and Frenkie de Jong. Others like Miralem Pjanic have already adapted their contracts to the current economic situation caused by the coronavirus.
