The CEO of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Kofi Osei Ameyaw, has created a three-member committee to investigate allegations of non-payment of grand prizes across the country.

According to the Director General, the mandate of the committee is to verify, validate and authenticate “documents of people in the category of great successes”.

NLA workers earlier on Monday, March 1, 2021, withdrew their services to protest what they say is the continued nationwide attack on them due to the Authority’s administration failing to pay the lottery winners.

They said the Authority had not paid for the winning drawings since April 2020, resulting in attacks on the lives of authority personnel in places like Tamale in the North Region.

The situation forced the National Labor Commission (NLC) to convene the NLA staff union and the Authority’s Director General, Kofi Osei Ameyaw, to find a solution to the aggrieved staff’s concerns.

At the hearing, the Director General explained to the NLC that “in this age when cybercrime has become a big problem, big wins are thoroughly investigated, verified and validated prior to payment of such wins.”

In addition, he affirmed that if the document is approved and validated by the committee, the award will be paid within fourteen days ”.

The NLC, upon hearing from both parties, described the staff’s protest as unlawful and unfair and therefore ordered them to resume work immediately.

“The NLC declares the workers’ action today as unlawful and unfair and orders the workers to suspend the suspension of the withdrawal of services and to resume work immediately,” ordered the statement signed by the Executive Secretary of the NLC, Ofosu Asamoah.

The committee is made up of two senior officials from the DG’s office and a representative of the aggrieved workers.
