The Head of the Public Relations Unit of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Razak Kojo Opoku, has asked why a private lottery company should be allowed to do 5/90 draws live on television to the detriment of the NLA, a stock that has the propensity to collapse the NLA.

Again he asked why a private lottery company should be allowed to operate with the short code 5/90 Game under Law 844 without the approval of the Board and without paying anything to the authority.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr. Kojo Opoku asked why the NLA, as a regulator and operator, should be in financial difficulties, while the Banker to Banker Lotto operators were prospering to the detriment of the government, which was very unacceptable.

He said the NLA was struggling to pay just 20 percent commission to its reputable lottery marketing companies, while private lottery operators pay 30 to 40 percent commission to their writers / agents.

Also, why Technical Service Providers should be able to charge rates of 4-6% on NLA gross sales and not on the network, and that there is a need to review such an arrangement.

Mr. Kojo Opoku said: “Why should major contracts and foreign transactions have to be signed with lottery companies in Nigeria that rely on NLA draw numbers without the approval of the Board and without the knowledge of the Ministry of Finance and the Bureau? of the president?

He said that a Technical Service Provider for VAG Lotto allegedly connected to the former CEO operates Game 5/90 on its platform without the approval and authorization of the Board.

Kojo Opoku said that the many issues that NLA management was doing its best to address were not known to outsiders who were rather attacking them.

He said that his loyalty was 100 percent to President Akufo-Addo and any of his appointees who advocated their way for the president’s work to be successful and that all his appointees have a patriotic duty to support President Akufo-Addo for may it be successful.

Kojo Opoku said that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo told Ghanaians to be citizens and not spectators and that they should always put Ghana first.
