The Lagos State Information and Strategy Commissioner told the BBC that the judicial panel investigating police abuses and extrajudicial killings has already started work this morning.

Gbenga Omotoso said that the panel, created by the Federal Executive Council, is already in the Lekki area after its inauguration.

He added that the formal session of the panel begins on Tuesday.

He has also confirmed that the researchers will work three days a week.

Last week, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu confirmed that CCTV footage at the Lekki toll bridge, where protesters demanding an end to police brutality were shot, will be used as part of the panel’s investigation.

Judicial inquiry panels have also been created in other states over the past week, including Ogun and Ondo states.
